Octopath Traveler 2 is the second installment in the Octopath Traveler series. I didn't play the first, but I heard decent things about them so decided to try it out. I received it as a Christmas present so it was something I wasn't certain about spending my own money on.
Overall, it ended up being an above-average JRPG. The art is fantastic - I really enjoyed the 2D-in-3D look! The gameplay was fairly standard with a fun "BP" mechanic. You gain 1 BP per turn you don't use BP. When you're ready, you can use up your stored BP to execute a much heavier attack. This mechanic was necessary throughout the game, and some characters could buff other characters' BP or other stats.
The game did suffer from some grinding to get through the quests. The team you chose leveled up separately from the other 3 4 characters. I think they could have made this easier by leveling them all together, but I understand this mechanic helps you learn all the characters in different teams.
The story was decent, and each character had a handful of chapters (4-5 chapters normally). These chapters generally progressed a decent part of the story and concluded with some kind of boss. The final act usually ended with a battle against that character's main nemesis. The final final boss was great! It was actually a challenging fight, and required that you had 2 decent teams built up.
